UPAA Elects Its Officers

The elected Board of the University of the Philippines Alumni Association has elected its officers for the years 2006 to 2009. The election was held recently at the Board of Regents room at the administration building, UP campus, after the new members of UPAA Board of Directors were sworn in by U.P. President Emerlinda R. Roman. Elected to the top post, as president of the association is lawyer-regent Gari M. Tiongco. The other elected officers are: businessman Ponciano E. Rivera Jr. 1st vice president, former Secretary of Agriculture Salvador Escudero,2nd vice president, former congressman Romulo B. Lumauig, 3rd vice president; Marita P. Carag, Secretary; Barbara F. Wong, Asst. Treasurer; Rufina S. Jorge, Treasurer; and Rosario R. Evangelista, asst. Treasurer, and Benjamin H. Cervantes, Public Relations Officer.

Tiongco headed a reconciliation ticket which united the different factional and various interest groups. The UP alumni closed ranks and heeded his call for unity as the University celebrates its centennial year. The alumni avoided a divisive and acrimonious election process which happened three years ago, the last election of UPAA. The other members of the UPAA Board are Mariano Hidalgo, Virgilio A. Fernandez, Leon M. Arceo, Romeo H. Gecolea, Alfredo E. Pascual, Sebastian L. Anglionto, Bayani S. Aguirre, Ligaya L. Tankeh, Ramon M. Maronilla, Feliciano B. Calora, Jesus S. Guevara ll, Agnes Essem B. Perez, Sylvia N.Guerero and Rita Linda V. Jimeno.
