The newly-elected 2007 – 2008 officers and Board of Directors were inducted into office by Deputy Consul General Tony Morales in simple but meaningful ceremonies held last Saturday August 18, 2007 at the Concord residence of outgoing President Romi Beza. The new slate of officers were led by President Alexis Zulueta, 1st Vice-President Ceny Duldulao, 2nd Vice-President Lito Utleg, Treasurer Henrie Fajardo-Boyd, Auditor Daisy Rodriguez, Secretary Cherry Utleg and Assistant Secretary Rose Ramos.
Event chair Cherry Utleg emceed the short evening induction program that was held at the pool area of the Beza residence. Outgoing President Romi Beza welcomed the 30-something guests, including DCG Tony Morales, UPAAA President Ted Aquino, UP SF Chapter President Manny Gaspay, PICPA President Selena Franco and UP Professor Cesar Torres, to his residence. Romi also outlined highlights of his two-term administration, among them, the successful staging of the Tagintinig musical benefit concert, establishment of the chapter website, the revision and ratification of the by laws, the nearly-completed first Berkeley chapter U.P. Professorial chair and even the preparatory work for next month’s Madrigal concert as well as next year’s Balik-UP program. For her part, new President Alexis Zulueta revealed her administration’s initiatives, namely, staging of a cultural presentation, holding of periodic networking/self-improvement socials and raising the Berkeley $1M U.P. Professorial chair endowment fund. It is her administration’s hope that the initiatives will bring the chapter to even greater glory.
Alexis also named the various committee chairs, as follows: Awards – Jay Castro; Advisory – Edna Victorino; Communication – Rose Salgado; Grants Raffi Rey; Membership – Andet Las Pinas; Music – Henry Torres; Projects Review – Ceny Duldulao; Philanthropy – Romi Beza; and Protocol – Quinito Joaquin. Talented chapter member Ulysses Dumdum provided a romantic guitar number to the guests befitting the intimate poolside setting. The chapter’s two newest — and youngest — members, namely, Dee Faraon and Myrna Mijares-Hadjirul, were also inducted during the program.

The usual sumptuous party buffet followed courtesy of Cherry Utleg, Ceny Duldulao and, of course, Romi Beza. The party extended late into the night as members and guests alike enjoyed each other’s company and convivial spirit.
Congratulations to the new officers and directors! More power to UPAANC Berkeley chapter!
