It was another rainy night but that didn’t matter. The chapter had fun anyway celebrating its 39th anniversary with a modest program last Feb. 10, 2007 at the Doubletree Hotel in Berkeley. The event was organized by Cherry Utleg and was attended by over 100 U.P. alumni and friends. Dr. Libby Sevandal led the alumni in singing the national anthems to the keyboard accompaniment of Minda Azarcon. Chapter 1st VP Alexis Zulueta then took over as the night’s master of ceremonies by introducing chapter President Romi Beza, who in turn introduced the night’s guest speaker — Ted Aquino — after delivering the welcome remarks. Mr. Aquino spoke briefly about the upcoming UP Alumni Association in America convention that his mother chapter, the UPAA San Francisco, is hosting come Labor Day week-end. Other guests included Prof. Cesar Torres and four officers from the UPAA San Francisco chapter, namely, Manny Gaspay, Ed Damasco, Jean Damasco and Gabby Moraleda. After Mr. Aquino’s speech, Jun Bagos entertained the crowd with classical and kundiman songs. Thereafter, the crowd took to the dance floor to the music of Joey Camins Band. The dancing lasted through midnight and was interrupted only by the raffle conducted by Cherry and Alexis. Thanks to all who came to celebrate with us!
