The association’s board of directors and officers set the chapter’s 2006-2007 calendar of activities in its maiden board meeting last August 1, 2006 at Goldilock’s Concord. The activities start as early as this Sunday with the chapter’s participation at the 13th Annual Pistahan Parade and Festival 2006 in San Francisco. The parade will be led no less by Consul General Rowena Sanchez and is part of the Centennial Celebration of Filipino American Migration to the United States which the Filipino-American community is celebrating this 2006. The chapter has been invited to join the Early Professionals portion of the parade.
Aside from Sunday’s parade, members are advised to reserve the following dates:
- 12/02/06 Saturday — Annual Christmas party
- 02/10/07 Saturday — UPAANC Berkeley Anniversary Dinner-Dance
- 04/21/07 Saturday — 1st Annual Golf Tournament
- June’07 Saturday — Summer picnic
In accordance with the chapter’s by-laws, four general meetings have also been set. There are two general meetings set this year, Sept. 9 and Nov. 11, and another two for next year, March 10 and May 12. All of the meetings will be held 1PM at the board room of the Contra Costa Water District located at 1331 Concord Avenue in Concord. In addition, the board will be having its quarterly meetings on the Tuesday prior to the aforementioned general meeting dates.
The maiden 2006-2007 board meeting presided by chapter president Romi Beza showed the officers are committed and excited to get the chapter buzzing again in the months ahead. In fact, the current board and officers are even setting the table for events scheduled later in 2007. They include the September 2007 UPAAA Convention in San Francisco, a proposed theater dinner presentation and the 2007 Philippine Madrigals concert. Our members will of course be advised accordingly on these future events as plans are firmed-up.
The association’s officers are looking forward to a fun-filled 2006-2007 term. Chapter members are encouraged to contact the event chairs — Cherry Utleg and Janine Castillo for the Christmas party; Cherry Utleg and Henri Boyd for the anniversary ball; Frank Batara for the golf tournament; and Violy Dalupan for the summer picnic — to help out in organizing the forthcoming events. See you soon!
